About Prenatal Belly Dance:
This is a full-body workout that gently builds strength and flexibility in your pelvic floor, abdominal and back muscles. Shireen’s classes will strengthen your core, helping you through your pregnancy, labour, delivery and postpartum recovery. Belly dance movements train you to manage your core muscles, simultaneously improving flexibility and posture.
Exercise at any phase of pregnancy is great for your body. Whether you are at the preconception, pregnancy or postpartum phase, physical activity and increased circulation are good things: Thumbs up for strong mamas. Babies in carriers are welcome in class.
Shireen is a member of Habeeba’s Dance Studio and a Registered Nurse. She brings with her a wealth of knowledge and experience from 5+ years of nursing practice in labour and delivery, antenatal, postpartum, NICU and community care.
Shireen is intruiged by the crossover between her passions. Nursing and belly dance emphasize similar values: Knowledge of one’s body, respect for the individual’s lived experience, the immeasurable value of cultural traditions and their impact on our health and well-being.
Remember to always listen to your body. If it doesn’t feel right, don’t do it. Muscular endurance and light cardio are the focus of our classes. Weight loss in pregnancy is not recommended. Consult your primary care provider prior to taking on a new activity in pregnancy. Know your limits and listen to your body.
